A glimpse into my life – here is a run-down of some of my favorite running-related things right now, in no particular order.
Most of the year (not the summers, obviously) I feel very blessed to live in such a mild climate that is perfect for running. This time of year is my absolute favorite because it is chilly in the mornings (low 50s), but then it warms up into the 70s during the day. I’m a morning runner, which means that this is right about the time when I break out my colder weather running gear. Right now, however, it’s not quite warm enough for long pants and just a little too cold for shorts. Enter the Oiselle Leslie Knicker. These capris are absolute heaven to run in. They are thin, but surprisingly warm and very comfortable. They are the perfect solution for the “do I wear pants or shorts” dilemma. I’ve been wearing these on my runs every day for the past few weeks. Pretty soon the nighttime temps will dip into the 30s and 40s when pants would be appropriate and I’m thinking I may just have to invest in a pair of Leslie Knickers’ sister, the Leslie tight.
Okay, this isn’t really running gear per se, but I am totally obsessed with it. This hoodie is so comfortable and soft, I wear it all the time. It is perfect for post-run when you want to wear something cozy and comfortable.
I feel like I write about headphones a lot, but seriously – a good pair is hard to find. A while back I tried out the “regular” Yurbuds and if you’ll recall, I wasn’t a big fan (if you don’t recall, you can read my review here). I basically had a hard time getting them to stay put every time I wore them. Yurbuds has a new line out now called Inspire, which are designed specifically for women. This means that they are smaller and come in pretty colors. Since I have small ears and think that this was the reason I couldn’t get the regular Yurbuds to work right, I figured I would give the Inspires a shot. They are only $30 (compared to the $40 I paid for the old ones) and come with 2 different size earbuds in the box. They also come with headphones, so you don’t have to go digging for your old Apple earphones that you may or may not still own. I have been using the smaller earbuds and have to say that I am impressed. I’ve been using them for about 3 weeks now and they have not once fallen out of my ears while running.
Yes, I wrote a full review of these shoes about a month ago, but I love them so much that I have to mention them again. I’ve been wearing them regularly now for about 5 weeks and now I can’t imagine going back to any other “traditional” shoe. They provide the perfect amount of support and cushioning that I like, but the zero-drop forces me to run with good form and land on my midfoot.
Ezekiel 4:9 Bread with Nutella and Sunflower Butter
Again, this isn’t totally running related, but it is great recovery food, so I’m including it. Usually when I get back from a run and after I cool down, I get really hungry really fast (I run first thing in the morning on an empty stomach or on half a Cliff Bar). I don’t like to make my full breakfast (typically a smoothie) until after I am showered and dressed, so I need a “breakfast appetizer” to help with recovery and keep me happy for about 30 minutes. Enter a toasted piece of Ezekiel 4:9 bread with Nutella and sunflower butter on top. I stumbled upon sunflower butter a few months ago and have been putting it on everything – I love it! I also recently tried the Ezekiel 4:9 bread because I like that it isn’t made with flour and is low glycemic. And Nutella is just damn tasty! One day I decided to throw all three together and it was simply heavenly!
